Design Approach

A considered dialogue between structure and nature

RHS award winning garden designer working across Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk

My work begins with an understanding of place. The lie of the land, the movement of light, the soil beneath our feet and the surrounding architecture all shape the design. I am interested in gardens that feel rooted and timeless. Spaces that sit gently within their setting rather than imposing themselves upon it.

Strong, confident geometry provides the framework. Naturalistic planting brings softness, texture and seasonal change. The two elements support one another. Structure creates calm. Planting brings life.

Listening to the landscape and to you

Every garden is a collaboration. I take time to listen to your needs, your taste, how you live and how you hope to use your garden. The process is thoughtful and unhurried. I aim to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also deeply personal and practical to live with.

From the earliest sketch through to planting and establishment, my role is to hold the creative vision and guide the project forward with clarity and care.

Gardens that mature gracefully over time

A garden is never static. It changes, softens, strengthens and evolves. Good design allows for this natural rhythm. Planting schemes are layered to provide interest across the seasons, encouraging biodiversity and supporting wildlife while still feeling refined and intentional.

The result is a garden that feels serene and grounded from the beginning, yet continues to deepen in character as it matures.

A calm and structured process

I believe the design journey should feel reassuring rather than overwhelming. Each stage is clearly defined, from initial consultation and concept development through to technical design, construction support and planting. My intention is to make the experience enjoyable, collaborative and transparent.

I work as a garden designer across Cambridgeshire, East Anglia, Hertfordshire and London and I take on only a limited number of commissions each year to ensure a high level of personal involvement.

A philosophy shaped by landscape and craft

My approach is influenced by the landscapes of East Anglia, the craftsmanship of traditional garden making and a belief that gardens can restore our connection to the natural world. A well designed garden can be a place of sanctuary, creativity, conversation and quiet reflection.
